Electronic textbooks replacing physical texts?

As an early adopter of ed tech, I nevertheless respect students who prefer a physical textbook over a textbook on an ipad. Many of us recall information as located in a physical place, and the tactile experience of locating the place in the book where a certain idea is found can assist memory. Although nothing can replace the interactivity and intelligent response of a good SCORM, for example, I still think some students need to physically grab on to a science book and turn the pages. It does concern me that many school districts, to save money, are abandoning physical print resources.
